Supreme Court Won’t Take Up Lopez Case. Parents’ Case Against Deputy Can Continue – June 26, 2018

Sonoma County has argued that a sheriff’s deputy should have immunity from a civil action following the shooting death of 13-year-old Andy Lopez.

The Supreme Court decided Monday not to hear an appeal from Sonoma County to block a civil suit brought by the parents of Andy Lopez.

The teenager was shot and killed by sheriff’s deputy Erick Gelhaus in 2013. Filmmaker Ron Rogers is working on a documentary about the aftermath of the Lopez shooting KRCB news director Steve Mencher asked him about the decision.
