Sonoma County Supervisor Shirlee Zane Advocates For Mental Health With Film on Suicide – July 6, 2018

When someone in the public eye takes his or her own life, there’s always worry that too much attention might cause copycats to mimic the celebrities. But silence too can be deadly.

Since the deaths of Anthony Bourdain and Kate Spade, the media has been full of stories about suicide. Supervisor Shirlee Zane was touched by this growing problem when her husband took his own life in 2011.

On July 11, Zane will present “The S Word,” a film about suicide and survival. She spoke with KRCB’s Steve Mencher about the crusade that began at her husband’s funeral.
