Roseland families celebrated the start of the school year with an annual backpack and school supply give away. But the atmosphere at this year’s event was heavier than usual.
Mochila is a Spanish word for backpack – and in Santa Rosa the annual Mochilada is a giveaway of packs full of school supplies for kids as they start the new school year. Although families were excited to celebrate the end of summer vacation, they were also anxious over immigration raids and the recent violence targeting the Latinx community. KRCB’s Adia White has the story.
