California’s major public institutions would be required to weigh Greenhouse gas Emissions into their budget analyses when purchasing materials for large infrastructure projects, under a proposed new bill unveiled this week.

Rethinking How to End Homelessness – January 31, 2017

The single best—and perhaps only –way to end homelessness is to get people housed, without preconditions. That’s among the recommendations of a national expert, who was in Santa Rosa yesterday.

To cure homelessness, give priority to the most challenging individuals. That radical rethinking of the issue served as the starting point for the two-day Summit on Homeless Solutions in Santa Rosa yesterday. KRCB’s Bruce Robinson was there, and spoke with the lead presenter.

A documentary film about the shooting of Andy Lopez plans to focus not on his death, but the community’s response to it.

The fatal shooting of 13 year old Andy Lopez was shocking and polarizing. But documentary filmmaker Ron Rogers is more interested in what has happened in the neighborhood afterward.

That fund-raiser for the “Andy” film will be held from 4-6 pm Sunday at Worth Our Weight café on Hahman Drive in Santa Rosa, and will also include a Q& A session with the film’s producers. Fifteen years ago, the idea of a free, digital encyclopedia, compiled and edited almost entirely by volunteers, and available at no cost to everyone, seemed like an idealistic fantasy.
