4th Friday Art After Dark
Healdsburg Center for the Arts
Friday, August 25th, 2017 @ 7:30 pm
Healdsburg Center for the Arts presents, in partnership with the City of Healdsburg’s Community Services Department, Art After Dark. This event is a community outreach program to engage the Healdsburg community through arts and culture. Downtown Plaza St. will come alive with music, entertainment, fine art display, film, theater performance, children’s art activities & entertainment, and much more.
For August 25th, HCA is partnering with Corazón Healdsburg, a local nonprofit that offers bilingual community support services to the Latino community. This festive event will showcase Latino art and culture. We will have live Mexican music, a performance by Ballet Folkloríco, a traditional Mexican dance that emphasizes folk culture with ballet characteristics, and a comedy performance by S.F. standup comic Rudy Ortiz. Other activities include a silent screening of a 1940s Cantinflas film. Mario Moreno, known professionally as Cantinflas, was an iconic Mexican comic film actor who was often referred to as the Charlie Chaplin of Mexico. North Bay Impalas Car Club will have eight beautiful vintage Impala cars on display on Plaza St, near East St.
HCA and Healdsburg Literary Guild will have booths as well as Corazón Healdsburg where you can try your chances at playing lotería, a traditional Mexican card game similar to bingo that is considered to be a form of folk art.
Children will be invited to get their faces painted and create their own masterpieces under the “Little Frieda Kahlo” tent while friends and family watch. All art supplies free to each child.
Festival attendees can purchase food and wine at neighboring businesses: El Farolito Restaurant, Idlewild Wines, C. Donatiello and inside HCA. Some seating is available at the event to enjoy the performances or a snack.
