A Trio of Voices: Poets Hottel, Meshulam and Emerson celebrate latest books

Local poets (pictured from left to right) Donna Emerson, (The Place of Our Meeting), Jodi Hottel, (Voyeur) and Phyllis Meshulam (Land of My Father’s War) will take you from home to farm, Yo-Yo Ma to Georgia O’Keeffe, to New York, Italy, Tibet and many places in between with their three separate and unique books of recently published poetry. This is a free event; donations heartily welcomed. Selected readings, Q& A, book sales and signing. Donna’s son, Jared, will play violin, fiddle, ukulele, and sing at the opening of the event.
Hottel’s Voyeur is the result of an ongoing interest in ekphrastic poetry related not just to visual art but many artistic forms, including literature and film. When a work of art creates heightened emotion, she responds with poems as varied in style as the works of art themselves.
In poetry that ranges from formal to experimental, Phyllis Meshulam in Land of My Father’s War, her first full-length poetry collection, chronicles her parents’ journey through separation during World War II, her own history, and the search for the lands of our roots and redemption.
Donna Emerson’s first full-length poetry collection, The Place of Our Meeting, celebrates significant encounters between human beings, generations, between people and nature, and human relationships with art and music. Settings range from California to New York. Poet Molly Peacock calls Donna “a new American pastoralist.”
Book sales and refreshments will be available. Wheelchair accessible.
Admission is free. Donations gratefully accepted.
