The Costanoan Trio with Kathleen Kraft – April 8, 2019

The Costanoan Trio with Kathleen Kraft
Occidental Center for the Arts
Saturday, April 13th, 2019 @ 7:30pm

For the last concert of the season, we’re pulling out all the stops and going for Baroque!  Based in the San Francisco Bay Area, the Costanoan Trio explores the piano trio repertoire of the late 18th and early 19th centuries on period instruments (violin, pianoforte, and cello) and recreates the world where music was played in intimate concert spaces. The trio takes its name from the Spanish word for the San Francisco Bay Area natives, coined in the 1700s when Western culture was being brought to the “new coast.” For our concert, the Trio is joined by the well known baroque flutist Kathleen Kraft for an evening featuring works by ‘Papa’ Joseph Haydn.

The Costanoan Trio are:
Derek Tam, pianoforte
Cythia Black, violin
Frédéric Rosselet, baroque cello
Kathleen Kraft, flute

Keyboardist Derek Tam performs regularly in the Bay Area and elsewhere.

Cynthia Black performs across the United States as a baroque violinist and violist.

Swiss-American cellist Frédéric Rosselet has performed with the American Bach Soloists (San Francisco), Philharmonia Baroque Orchestra (San Francisco), Musica Angelica (Los Angeles), Live Oak Baroque Orchestra (Sonoma), Ensemble San Francisco and MUSA (San Francisco), and in music festivals in California and Switzerland.

Kathleen Kraft studied flute and 18th-century music at the Royal Conservatory in Holland and became part of the revival of the Early Music movement in the Bay Area music scene in the 1970s when there were but few players
