Come to OCA’s acoustic sweet spot to enjoy “The future of Bossa Nova with the face of youth today”! Monica da Silva and Chad Alger are a Brazilian American duo. Their music incorporates Bossa Nova and international influences, to form their self-coined ‘Indie Nova’ genre. Accompanied by Alger on guitar, da Silva sings in English, Portuguese, Spanish, and French. She also adds accents of flute and melodica throughout their arrangements.

Mônica da Silva grew up living between The Midwest, United States, and Belém, Brazil – a city on the Amazon River. Bringing her cultural diversity to her songs, she smoothly flows between languages, and takes her listeners on a journey. Through her music, da Silva hopes to expose people to different cultures, sounds, and new ways of thinking.

Da Silva’s most recent release ‘Soldado de Amor’ was nominated for a 2018 International Brazilian Press Award and was featured in the Paramount Network series ‘American Woman’. Her songs are also featured in the Golden Globe Award winning movie ‘Lady Bird’, on the Putumayo World Music compilation ‘Brazilian Beat’, in The World Cup, and in the BBC One series ‘The Replacement’.

Da Silva is currently recording a new, full-length album, to be released in 2019, as well as writing and recording with her project, Complicated Animals. She collaborates with her fiancé and guitarist, Chad Alger in both projects. The duo have been writing and performing together, since meeting in Chicago in 2008. They’ve toured the United States and Canada, and plan to perform in Europe soon. http://www.monicadasilva.com/

Says Chris Nickson of The NPR Curious Listener’s Guide To World Music- “Da Silva is doing something unique with Brazilian music, following her own Muse, and sounding spectacular. Brasilissima has touches of “samba and bossa, and even a small nod toward the very percussive axé music, but, along with partner Chad Alger, who shares playing, production and compositional credits, she’s created a hybrid that’s her own, and ridiculously addictive.”
