Vintner’s Chamber Orchestra Preview Concert.

Please join us for an evening of exquisite music for string orchestra! Our program will include four masterpieces of the string ensemble repertoire, with music that spans across the globe and ranges from the 1800s to the present day.

We open our concert with music by the contemporary American composer John Corigliano. His “Invitation au voyage” (Invitation to the Voyage) is a hauntingly beautiful setting of a poem by the French Romantic poet Charles Baudelaire, transcribed by the composer for string orchestra from the original choral work. Then it’s on to the Bohemian countryside, with the joyful “Serenade for Strings” by the Czech composer Antonin Dvorak. Next it’s up north, with the tender and epigrammatic “Romance” by Finnish composer Jean Sibelius. We conclude the concert with one of the most beloved works of all time, Tchaikovsky’s Serenade for Strings, a virtuoso tour de force of Russian Romanticism.
