Bill McNamara – May 18, 2018

Quarryhill Botanical Garden
Bill McNamara Honored

Quarryhill Botanical Garden President & Executive Director Bill McNamara was honored with two of the top three awards in the field of horticulture in 2017— the Veitch Memorial Medal from England’s Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) and the Liberty Hyde Bailey Award from the American Horticulture Society (AHS). In 2010, Bill received the Arthur Hoyt Scott Medal, which is considered the third of these “Top Three Horticulture Honors,” meaning Mr. McNamara joins a small and distinguished group of seven other Americans who have earned all three prestigious awards. It is also a rare distinction to receive both the RHS Veitch Award and the AHS Liberty Hyde Bailey Award in the same year.

This year, he was named an Honorary Member of The Garden Club of America (GCA), one of its highest accolades, and received the prestigious Eloise Payne Luquer Medal from GCA in 2009. He has also received the esteemed Award of Excellence from the National Garden Clubs in 2013, and the Annual Award from the California Horticultural Society in 2012.

Quarryhill is a 25-acre botanical garden of mature, flowering plants from Asia. Magnolias, dogwoods, maples, birches, roses, lilies, rhododendrons, and many others grace the garden’s paths with hidden places to sit and relax, while surrounded by ponds, waterfalls, and vistas of the Sonoma Valley. We welcome visitors year round to enjoy our Asian woodland garden, where all seasons in the garden have their own beauty.

Photography is welcomed. Please remember that Quarryhill is an educational and scientific collection. Removing seeds or cuttings from the garden is strictly forbidden. For your convenience, picnic areas are located near the parking lot and in the garden.
