Good People – January 25, 2018

Good People
Cinnabar Theater
February 2nd – 18th, 2018

Welcome to old-school Irish Catholic South Boston, where a night on the town means a few rounds of bingo, where this month’s paycheck covers last month’s bills, and where Margie Walsh has just been let go from yet another job. Facing eviction and scrambling to catch a break, Margie thinks an old fling who’s made it “out” might be her ticket to a fresh new start. But is this apparently self-made man secure enough to face his humble beginnings? Margie is about to risk what little she has left to find out. With his signature humorous glow, Lindsay-Abaire explores the struggles, shifting loyalties and unshakeable hopes that come with having next to nothing in America.

Sonoma ReCANstruction – January 24, 2018

Sonoma ReCANstruction
Coddingtown Mall
Saturday, February 24th, 2018 @

Building a stronger Sonoma County, one can at a time.

The Redwood Empire Food Bank (REFB) and Coddingtown Mall, along with a committed team of local leaders have joined forces to bring Sonoma ReCANStruction to our community once again in 2018.

CanStruction is a design and build competition to construct fantastic structures made entirely out of canned food. The event serves as a reminder that hunger happens year round and that non-perishable canned food items can be healthy choices. CanStruction aims to engage, amaze and inspire the community to work together raising canned food to feed our neighbors in need of emergency food assistance.

We are currently seeking schools, businesses, programs, non-profit organizations and architect and design firms to design and build structures to enter into the competition.

Deadline for entries is Monday, February 12th.

On Saturday, February 24th, teams will have six hours – 7:00 am to 1:00 pm – to build their structures. Following the build, friends, family, and neighbors will vote for their favortites and celebrate with competitions and prizes!

Voting categories include:
Best Ingenuity
Best Original Design
Best Structural Integrity
Best Use of Diabetes Friendly Products
Best Use of Heart Healthy Products
Best Use of Labels
Best Use of Vegan Products
Kid’s Choice
People’s Choice

Teams have two options for collecting/purchasing non-perishable food for their canstructure:
• Order canned and other non-perishable food directly from the Redwood Empire Food bank using this order form (check back soon!). Please email your order form to cmali@refb.org. Your order must be submitted by noon, Monday, January 29th to ensure your order arrives by February 24th.
• Purchase food directly from a local supplier, grocer, or manufacturer, or collect food through a food drive. Learn more about organizing food drives at www.refb.org.
All food collected and/or purchased for your canstructure will be donated to the Redwood Empire Food Bank following the build on February 24th. Each team is responsible for purchasing and/or collecting their own food.

Structures will remain on display through March 2nd.

Rapture, Blister, Burn – January 19, 2018

Rapture, Blister, Burn
Raven Players Healdsburg
January 26th – February 11th, 2018

After grad school, Catherine built a career as a rock star academic, while her friend Gwen built a home with her husband and children. Decades later, unfulfilled in polar opposite ways, each woman covets the other’s life, commencing a dangerous game of musical chairs—the prize being Gwen’s husband. A thoughtful, funny look at 21st century gender politics.

Self & Other: A teach-in with Bill Say – January 17, 2018

Self & Other: Ways We Divide Ourselves From Other People
A teach-in with Bill Say
Peace and Justice Center of Sonoma County
Monday, January 22nd, 2018 @ 7:00 pm

Occupy Sonoma County presents Self & Other: Ways We Divide Ourselves From Other People. A teach-in with Bill Say.

We all, at some point, will find ourselves encountering the other—the person, group, style or perspective that we perceive as not us and to some degree oppose or marginalize. Understanding and appreciating who we are and who the other may be is vital for efficacy, deeper conflict resolution and overall health (and less burn-out!). Bill Say, M.A. will present aspects of Process Work, the approach developed as a basis for Self and Other work. This public presentation will combine brief lecture, discussion and experiential exercises.

Bill Say is a Process Work Diplomate and a faculty member of California Institute of Integral Studies. Check out his website: www.billsay.com
