The Delphi Trio – January 11, 2018

Redwood Arts Council presents The Delphi Trio
Occidental Center for the Arts
Saturday, January 20th, 2018 @ 7:30 pm

This Piano Trio was just coming on the scene when we invited them to perform for us in 2013, but they knocked our audience’s socks off! Back by audience demand. Do not miss this group.

Praised for “spot-on ensemble playing and a beautifully blended sound” (San Francisco Classical Voice) and “rich, committed string tone, dazzling pianism, rhythmic flexibility, and risky tempi” (Sarasota Herald Tribune), the Delphi Trio has become a powerfully eloquent voice in the world of chamber music.

Prizewinners of the 2015 Orlando Concours in the Netherlands, the Delphi Trio has performed in Germany, the Netherlands, Canada, and across the United States.

The Delphi Trio is grounded in the immensely rich classic repertoire for piano trio and is committed to the exploration of its deep, lasting meaning for performers and audience alike. The Trio sees contemporary music as a natural extension of the standard repertoire and is therefore dedicated to the music of our time. The Trio will be premiering a new work by Evan Price, composer and jazz violinist formerly of the Turtle Island Quartet, in the 2017–18 season.

The Delphi Trio believes chamber music is an ideal model for education. Delphi is committed to supporting young artists as they begin their careers and has established their Emerging Artist Program to collaborate with collegiate students in their first professional chamber music concert.

The ensemble is built on trust and communication; to that end, each Delphi rehearsal starts in the same way — a meal, conversation, and music.

The Delphi Trio are:
Jeffrey LaDeur, piano
Liana Bérubé, violin
Michelle Kwon, cello

50 Years of Franklin – January 8, 2018

50 Years of Franklin
Charles M. Schulz Museum
Saturday, January 13, 2018 @ 10:00 am

Shortly after the assassination of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Los Angeles schoolteacher Harriet Glickman wrote to Charles Schulz about integrating the world of Peanuts. She believed that the popular comic strip could help shape American attitudes on race. The result of their correspondence was the character of Franklin, introduced to Peanuts fans in the summer of 1968. Celebrate the 50th anniversary of Franklin’s poignant debut with an engaging display of correspondence between Glickman and Schulz, paired with the original comic strips that became a cultural benchmark in the history of American comics.

The exhibition runs January 13 through August 5, 2018

Big Fat Year End Kiss Off Comedy Show XXV – January 1, 2018

Will Durst & Friends – Big Fat Yer End Kiss Off Comedy Show XXV
Throckmorton Theater
Monday, January 1, 2018 @ 7:30 pm

Will Durst and his merry band of pranksters are pleased as punch to bring to Vallejo for the very first time, their hilarious New Year’s celebration where they promise to lampoon, satirize, mock, scoff, scorn, taunt, tease, rib and ridicule the people and events of the past year and do it with a modicum of taste and decorum. And sometimes not.

The 25th edition of the Big Fat Year End Kiss Off Comedy Show features an uproarious collection of riotous skits, songs, sketches, and stand- up, all based on the wacky zany antics that occurred during the calendar year of 2017. Some annums are less conducive as objects of humourosity, but this one gave us a veritable surfeit of Donald Trump, Kellyanne Conway, Kim Jong Un, hurricanes, earthquakes, wildfires, floods and for all we know an actual Sharknado. It was a cornucopia of delights. And enough grist for the comedic mill to fill six 2- hour shows. But we will only be doing one. Cherry- picking the best material.

Continuing a holiday tradition as hallowed as the coal in Anthony Scaramucci’s stocking and as welcome as Bloody Mary mix at Steve Bannon’s Ash Wednesday hangover brunch , The Big Fat Year End Kiss Off Comedy Show consists of 6 comics, Will Durst, Johnny Steele, Debi Durst, Michael Bossier, Arthur Gaus & Mari Magaloni, providing their unique brand of mayhem and merriment and a minimum of 2,347 laughs.

Your results may vary.
